Chili Cook Off Oct.28, 2006
August 12th ended up being a beautiful day for a motorcycle ride. With the weather cooperating thirty bikes and forty riders participated in this years ride, making it the biggest and so far the best ride we've had. The 100 mile ride began at 11 a.m. at Station 9 and went through Monroe, Lawrence and Brown County before finishing back at Station 9 with a hog roast. We were glad that Jon's family could make the trip from Valparaiso to join us in remembering their son, without their support none of this would be possible. Van Buren Township Fire Department would like to thank all the businesses and private donors who helped make this year's Flips Run a great success. Prizes were donated by Wild & Wonderful Leather Company in Nashville, the Awards Center and Winters & Associates in Bloomington, Harley-Davidson of Bloomington, Pit Bull Leather in Nashville, John Mellencamp and Chris Welch. Food was donated by Melton's Orchard, Aunt Millie's Bakery, Captain Bill Tusing and members of Van Buren Township Fire Department. A special thanks to the Tusing family for donating and preparing the hog. The department would also like to thank the firefighters at Perry-Clear Creek Station 21, Brown County Fire Department Cadets and firefighters at Bloomington Township Station 5. We were very grateful to Jeff Rees and Lucas Tate for supplying traffic assistance and helping the ride continue smoothly. Thanks and appreciation also go to: Chief Tim Deckard, Deputy Chief Russel Clark, Ryan Fipps, Stefanie Green, Charlie Belden, Jr., Wesley Deckard, Shelly Clark, Jordyn Clark, Josh and Alysha Stewart, as well as the on duty crew at Station 9, Dave Stewart, Marie Shipley and Mike Cornman.
Thank you everyone,
Anita Paynter- E-Board Vice President
