Christmas Party 2005
The annual Christmas Party
was December 3rd at Station 9. Current and Lifetime Van Buren
Members were presented with embroidered jackets with reflective
stripes as this years Christmas gift from the Volunteer Association.
For the spouses the husbands were given the opportunity to present
their significant other with a dozen roses, while the wives
chose from a grab bag for their husbands gift. E-Board President
Ron Vandeventer did an impressive job making sure everything
went smoothly. Township Trustee Gary Bruce thanked all the firefighters
for their years of service. Bruce also gave four members their
5 year pins: Chief Tim Deckard, Sergeants Ryan Fipps and Rob
Pursell, and FF/EMT Josh Stewart. Captain Bill Tusing received
his 10 year pin. Sergeants Jim Shaw and Ryan Fipps were honored
with a Life Saver Bar for their heroism on October 24th 2005
at the scene of a structure fire on Burch Road. The room and
contents fire trapped an occupant on the second story balcony
of an apartment above a horse and show barn. Shaw and Fipps
were able to gain access to the occupant and remove them from
harms way.
The Certificate of Excellence was given to 15 members for answering
7 calls in a 4 hour period, 6 of which occured within 45 minutes.
Deputy Chief Russel Clark, Lieutenant Ed Terrell (on duty),
Sergeant Marie Shipley (on duty), Sergeant Ryan Fipps, Alana
Black, Charlie Belden, Shelly Clark, Brandon Couch, Steve Gilliam
(on duty), Chuck Gorman, Sarah Inman, Mike Kelley, Anita Paynter,
Jerome Rector (on duty) and Jake Viehman all responded when
the station was flexed to a breaking point on November 12th. |
